Two Recent Isle of Wight Roofing Jobs: Newbridge Bay Roof & Sandown Flat Roof

From matching a tiled bay roof to protecting an ageing flat roof, two recent JC Roofing projects show how the right roofing work can improve both the appearance and condition of an Isle of Wight property.

TL;DR

Our recent roofing work included renewing a tiled front bay roof in Newbridge so it matched the rest of the property, complete with new underfelt, treated battens and associated cement work. In Sandown, we installed a new single-layer covering over an ageing flat roof, helping protect the existing roof from further deterioration while giving it a clean, fresh finish.

Matching a Front Bay Roof in Newbridge

The first project took us to Newbridge, on the western side of the Isle of Wight near Calbourne and Shalfleet.

The front bay roof was tiled in a different style from the main roof of the house. Although relatively small compared with a complete roof replacement, a bay roof is a prominent feature at the front of a property – and having two noticeably different roofing styles wasn't the finish the customer wanted.

They asked us to renew the bay so that it would sit much more naturally alongside the rest of the house.

This wasn't simply a case of taking off one set of tiles and swapping them for another.

Once the existing covering was removed, we installed new roofing underfelt and treated battens, providing a sound base beneath the new tiles. The job also included the necessary undercloak and cement work to complete the roof neatly.

The result is a front bay that is much more in keeping with the appearance of the main roof, while the work beneath the tiles has been renewed at the same time.

Giving an Ageing Flat Roof a Fresh Finish in Sandown

Our second recent job was in Sandown, where the existing flat roof was beginning to show its age.

Rather than waiting for the covering to deteriorate further, the customer opted to have an overlay to the existing flat roof.

This approach helped protect the ageing roof beneath from further deterioration and gave the whole area a much cleaner, fresher finish.

It’s a useful reminder that roof maintenance doesn't always need to begin with water coming through the ceiling. Spotting that a roof covering is ageing and taking action at the right time can help prevent its condition from getting worse.

Roofing Solutions That Suit the Property

These were two quite different projects, but both demonstrate the importance of choosing roofing work to suit the property and the condition of the existing roof.

In Newbridge, the priority was to renew the bay roof properly while bringing its appearance into line with the rest of the house. In Sandown, it was about protecting an ageing flat roof and refreshing its finish before further deterioration occurred.

At JC Roofing, Jamie Cassford and the team carry out roofing work across the Isle of Wight, from smaller repairs and individual roof areas through to flat roofing, tiling and complete roof replacements.
